The Journal of Arts ; مجلة الآداب

  

Majalat al-Adab, or the Journal of Arts, is a Journal issued by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at King Saud University in Riyadh; it is a scientific, academic, peer-reviewed journal aimed at improving the standard of scientific research in the field of humanities and social sciences.

The first volume was issued in 1390AH/1970 and was entitled: The Journal of the College of Arts, and was published annually until 1404AH/1984. From 1409AH/1989 onwards, it was retitled: The Journal of King Saud University - Arts. It was retitled once again to The Journal of Arts (Majalat al-Adab) in 1434AH/2013 and was published triannually. Following 1443AH/2022, the Journal began publishing quarterly.

The Editorial Board of this Journal welcomes the research of scholars in both English and Arabic in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

To be a pioneering, distinguished journal publishing in the arts, humanities, and social sciences, and to be indexed in the global databases as one of the most famous regional (Arabian) and international publishing platforms.

To contribute to science by publishing peer-reviewed research in accordance with international and professional standards in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

  2. To meet researchers’ needs for publishing in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.
  3. To foster knowledge in language, literature, the humanities, and social sciences, and to contribute to the development of  society.



Submission Guidelines

Publication Requirements

1- The paper's submission to the Journal is a pledge that the paper has not been published elsewhere, nor will it be submitted for publication elsewhere, until the Journal's review process is completed.

2- Manuscripts should not exceed a maximum of 10,000 words, including the abstracts (both in Arabic and English), keywords, references, and appendices.

3- The official citation formatting system used by the Journal is the Chicago Formatting Style with a few journal-specific modifications; it should be used for both in-text citations and the reference list. Any manuscript that does not adhere to the Chicago style will be returned to the author(s).

4- The author should only use footnotes, and he should restart numbering in each page.

5- The manuscript must contain two abstracts; one in Arabic and one in English. Each should be no less than 100 words and no more than 200 words.

6- Each abstract must be preceded by no more than six keywords representing the major research topics. The keywords should be placed after the title and before the abstract.

7- The author’s name or any indication of identity must not be mentioned implicitly or explicitly anywhere in the body of the research; instead, the author may use neutral terms such as “the researcher”.

8- The abbreviated titles of periodicals must be used in the form provided by the World List of Scientific Periodicals. Technical abbreviations (e.g., cm, km


Reception Procedures

Publication Process

The manuscript's submission means that the manuscript has not been previously published, nor submitted / will not be submitted for publication elsewhere until the review process is completed. Any attempt to submit the paper elsewhere during its consideration may lead to an action taken by the Journal that it deems appropriate.

  1. The Journal conducts a preliminary review of the paper to decide whether or not it is appropriate to move on to the peer-review step.
  2. After obtaining approval from the Editorial Board, all submitted papers undergo a scientific review process in a confidential, double-blind manner, where the reviewers are unaware of the author’s identity, and vice versa.
  3. The manuscript will be sent to two reviewers who specialize in the paper’s subject. If their opinions differ regarding the acceptance of the paper, the paper will be sent to a third reviewer, whose opinion will be decisive.
  4. The papers will be returned to its authors only one time to make changes based on the reviewers’ suggestions and notes. The author must return the revised paper to the Journal within two weeks. The revised paper will then be sent again to the reviewers to assess if their revisions have been attended to and will either accept or reject the paper based on their assessment.

Common Mistakes
Avoid these common mistakes by authors; failure to do so may cause the manuscript to be sent back and forth to the author or to be totally rejected

Adhere to the Journal Rules of Publication and Instructions, and make preliminary changes, if necessary, requested by the Journal Administration; failure to do so may lead to the rejection of the paper. The author is granted only two opportunities for making changes.
Be aware not to fail to follow the required style manual - which is the Chicago Formatting Style - whether in the body of the manuscript, or in the reference page. Be aware to adhere to the allowed word limit, which is 10,000 words for the full manuscript, including the two abstracts.
